Meet the team

The Moving Metro team is made up of first-year journalism students at College of the North Atlantic. From left: Madison Ryan, Ka Chai (Clifton) Tam, Ariyana Gomes, and Abby Butler.

Madison Ryan is an award-winning fiction writer, a freelance music reviewer, and radio host. She is extremely interested in current affairs and politics, but loves escaping into fantasy stories. She believes there is great power in words and thinks journalism is an essential tool for positive change.

Madison is responsible for the written portions of the Moving Metro project.

Ariyana Gomes is a news and politics enthusiast, and she enjoys keeping up with current affairs. With her work, she strives to promote inclusion and representation within her community. Not just a skilled journalist, Ariyana is a talented chef with a passion for cooking traditional meals.

Ariyana conducted the research for Moving Metro and created the data visualizations.

Most commonly found behind the cameras, Ka Chai is at the front of all technical productions by the first-year journalism students. He has a remarkable talent for all things technical and is responsible for flawless broadcast shows, high quality audio recordings, and pristine videos.

Ka Chai filmed the Moving Metro panel discussion and edited the video.

Abby Butler is a skilled freelance news photographer. She takes great pride in telling stories as much through her photos as she does with her words. A lover of photography from a young age, Abby has developed a talent for creating compelling images.

Abby took all the photos for the Moving Metro project.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to journalism instructor Jeff Ducharme for supporting us in the creation of Moving Metro. He gave us the freedom to put forth our individual strengths to produce this project. From cheering us on each and every day, to bringing Timbits when we needed the extra motivation, we can’t thank him enough.
